info ♡
y2k one shoulder top is worked in vertical ribbed rows with one shoulder strap
example is half double crochet stitches worked only in back loops
you can easily adjust the length of the top or width of the strap
♡ THE PATTERN ♡
step 1: measure vertical length over the largest part of the chest/torso; you will be working in rows, building the circumference of the top (measure based on the strapless half of the top, as the strap side stretches slightly)
to match the length of the example, I would suggest 9 inches tall for a bra size A, and an added inch for each letter size up
step 2: measure circumference around the largest part of the chest/torso
if you stick with working this top in back loops only, it’ll have a nice stretch so you can remove a couple inches from the measurement here if you want a more snug fit
begin with a chain that is the desired height as determined above, leave a tail twice that length, you’re working from the spine here with the starting tail at the bottom of the top
row 1: half double crochet across, chain 1, turn
row 2: half double crochet across in back loops only, chain 1, turn
row 3: repeat row 2 until you reach about half of your circumference measurement, be sure you are up to an even number of rows
*halfway point*
divide your current number of rows by 4, round to the nearest even number
work that many more rows before starting the strap, placing an increase into each row on the stitch closest to the top
making the strap
so you have the starting tail at the bottom of the back, you are at the front working an even numbered row so your working tail is at the top, you will form a loose chain from here
a 12 inch chain would be a good standard length but you can try on and measure to make it more precise
chain 1, turn, work down the chain and keep working into the back loops only of the last row of the shirt, chain 1, turn
half double crochet across the shirt and the strap in back loops only, chain 1, turn
half double crochet across the strap and the shirt in back loops only, chain 1, turn
(you can repeat the last two steps if you want a wider strap)
finishing up
half double crochet across the shirt in back loops only for as many stitches as your last increase row (the row before the strap) chain 1, turn
decrease, half double crochet across the shirt in back loops only, chain 1, turn
half double crochet across the shirt in back loops only, decrease, chain 1, turn
repeat the last two steps until you have the same number of decreases as increases and you’re back to the original number of stitches
continue working rows of half double crochet until the shirt totals twice the number of rows as counted at the halfway point: example, halfway point was 16 and now after the strap and last rows, total rows equal 32
fasten off
assembly
turn your piece inside out before seaming, seam using a whip stitch or mattress stitch
use your starting tail to seam up the back of the top
with the back seam facing you, centered, lay the shirt flat and fold the strap straight to the back
use your finishing tail to weave through and attach the loose end of the strap to the back of the top, it should be lined up straight
