MATERIALS:

  • lightweight or worsted weight yarn for crop top and edging of sweater

  • worsted weight yarn for sweater

  • 3 buttons ( 1 inch ) + needle and thread

  • size H/5mm hook

  • measuring tape

MEASUREMENTS:

  • desired length of crop top over bust

  • circumference around bust

  • circumference around chest under bust

  • length from shoulder to desired sweater length

  • desired sweater size around the waist

  • length from underarm to wrist

  • circumference of upper arm

GAUGE:

in lightweight HDC

7 rows of 10 stitches = 2.5 inches by 2.5 inches

in worsted HDC

5 rows of 8 stitches = 2.5 inches by 2.5 inches

CROP TOP PATTERN:

chain desired length of top

this can be calculated based on gauge, for lightweight yarn: desired length in inches, divided by  2.5 inches, then multiply this number by 10 (10 chains equals 2.5 inches) or by 8 for worsted weight

*chain 1, turn, HDC in back loops only in the second chain from hook and in each chain across*

continue from * until you reach the width needed to fit around the bust, adding another color halfway or multiple changes of color — the final number of rows needs to be in multiples of 4 if you will want to add scallops

this can be calculated based on gauge, for lightweight yarn: measurement around the bust in inches, divided by 2.5 inches, then multiply this number by 7 (7 rows equals 2.5 inches) or by 5 for worsted weight

when width is reached, loosely slip stitch last row to starting chain, fasten off, turn right side out

UPPER BORDER: pull up a loop at the back seam, chain 1, SC into the side of each row around — continuing in the round, slip stitch to first chain, chain 1 *chain 1, skip 1 stitch, SC* repeat from * around, fasten off

LOWER BORDER: pull up a loop at the back seam, chain 1, sc into the side of each row around — continuing in the round in BLO, slip stitch to first chain, chain 1, *skip 1 stitch, 5 HDC into next, skip 1 stitch, slip stitch into next* repeat from * around, fasten off

STRAP: chain 125, thread through any holes on the upper border — for a stronger strap, slip stitch back down the chain

SWEATER PATTERN:

BACK PANEL: chain desired length of sweater

this can be calculated based on gauge: desired length in inches, divided by 2.5 inches, then multiply this number by 8 (8 chains equals 2.5 inches)

*chain 1, turn, HDC in back loops only in the second chain from hook and in each chain across*

continue from * until you reach half of the desired torso circumference, make sure the number of rows is divisible by 4,  fasten off

this can be calculated based on gauge: half of the measurement around the torso in inches, divided by 2.5 inches, then multiply this number by 5 (5 rows equals 2.5 inches)

FRONT PANELS: make 2

your front panels will each have half the number of rows as your back panel, plus one extra row on each

begin working same as the back panel, but work the last 7 rows of each front panel as following, still in BLO

  1. HDC across except for last 8 stitches, SC, slip stitch, do not chain 1, turn

  2. slip stitch into next 6, SC, HDC across, chain 1, turn

  3. HDC across except for last 8 stitches, do not count the 6 slip stitches below, SC, slip stitch, do not chain 1, turn

  4. slip stitch into next 6, SC, HDC across, chain 1, turn

  5. HDC across except for last 8 stitches, do not count 6 slip stitches below, SC, slip stitches, do not chain 1, turn

  6. (button hole side) slip stitch into next 6, SC, HDC 1, chain 1, skip 1 stitch, HDC into next 6, chain 1, skip 1 stitch, HDC into next 6, chain 1, skip 1 stitch, HDC in last stitches, chain 1, turn; (button side) slip stitch into next 6, SC, HDC across, chain 1, turn

  7. HDC back across the length

SLEEVES: chain desired length of sweater sleeve

this can be calculated based on gauge: desired length in inches, divided by 2.5 inches, then multiply this number by 8 (8 chains equals 2.5 inches)

*chain 1, turn, HDC in back loops only in the second chain from hook and in each chain across*

continue from * until you reach desired sleeve circumference, with the number of rows being divisible by 4, fasten off

slip stitch last row to the starting chain to seam, fasten off

pull up a new loop in your border color for cuffs

SC into the side of each row (should be the same as number of rows, multiples of 4) slip stitch to first SC

in BLO *skip 1 stitch, 5 HDC into next, skip 1 stitch, slip stitch into next* repeat from * around, fasten off

ASSEMBLY:

turn all pieces inside out to seam and lay flat, line up the sleeves with the sides of the sweater

seam the shoulders of the front and back panels, then seam around the sleeves, then move down to seaming the sides of the sweater, attach buttons across from your buttonholes

go back to the sweater to create the trim, pull up a loop on the bottom of the sweater at the left inner corner

SC around the bottom of the sweater, and when you get to the front again, move up the center slip stitching into FRONT loops only, slip stitch to first slip stitch

continuing in the round, work the scallops around the bottom of the sweater: in BLO *skip 1 stitch, 5 HDC into next, skip 1 stitch, slip stitch into next* repeat from * around, fasten off

and that’s it! ♡
