MATERIALS ♡

  • 15mm hook

  • 8mm hook (for assembly, similar size may work)

  • 5mm hook (for the feet)

  • 110 yards of main color (weight 6/7 fur yarn; I used 3 skeins of yarn bee faux wild native mink which is now discontinued, it was 7oz & 37 yards per skein

I recommend big twist favorite faux fur, loops & threads faux fur, or something similar as a replacement)

  • 55 yards of white fur (I used 1 skein of loops & threads faux fur in ivory, it was 10.5oz & 56 yards per skein )

  • 120 yards worsted weight black yarn for the feet (I used 2 strands of some unknown velveteen yarn held together to create a worsted weight)

  • 15mm eyes (I used black safety eyes and painted a brown iris with nail polish, and added a glossy top coat)

  • black felt for the nose & paws (about 6” square)

  • scissors

  • hot glue (or any type of thick glue for the felt)

  • small amount of poly-fill (or yarn/fabric scraps)

finished fur measures about 40” long by 36” wide

CROCHET THE PELT ♡

gauge: super bulky yarn & 15mm hook: 3 rows of 4 hdc = 3” x 3”

fur yarn is kind of difficult to work with and I don’t have many tips, you have to mainly go by feel. I didn’t have a yarn needle big enough for it so I used a 8mm hook to weave in the ends and attach each piece. I used a separate piece of yarn to assemble the pieces so you can just cut your ends and tie them off/weave them in where needed

I just started at the bottom of each piece and increased/decreased to match the grid. you can visit my free instructional guide on crocheting a grid as a flat appliqué if you need more information on foundation hdc!

white chin fur:

chain 3, working into the second chain from the hook

rows 4—7: hdc across (7) chain 1, turn

row 8: decrease, hdc into next 3, decrease (5) chain 1 turn

row 9: decrease, hdc into next, decrease (3) chain 1 turn

row 34: decrease, hdc into next, decrease (3) chain 1, turn

row 35: hdc across (3)

fasten off with enough end to weave in

lay the white tail piece under the main tail lined up as seen on the graph, use a new piece of string & your smaller hook to whipstitch them together

weave through the edge of both pieces all the way around and just the bottom layer of brown loops at the base of the tail so the white doesn’t show through the top

add a little stuffing before fastening off

do the same for the chin fur; add eyes where indicated with X on the graph (before stuffing if they have a backing that goes on the inside)

cut & glue felt nose

ears: make 2

in brown, chain 6, leave a long tail for attaching

row 1: hdc across (5) chain 1, turn

row 2: decrease, hdc, decrease (3) chain 1, turn

row 3: decrease across 3 (1) fasten off

in white, pull up a loop at the bottom of the ear at the second chain, leave a long tail for attaching white to brown

row 1: hdc 3 white (3) chain 1, turn

row 2: decrease across 3 (1) chain 1, turn

fold the white part onto the brown part and seam it on through the front layer of brown loops so that the white doesn’t show through the back of the ear

use the starting tail on the brown to attach the ears in a slight curve as indicated on the graph with brown lines

CROCHET THE FEET ♡

gauge: worsted weight & 5mm hook: 5 rows of 6 hdc = 2” x 2”

  • feet are about 2” wide and 6” long; worked in the round

using the 5mm hook & worsted weight yarn, chain 5

round 1: working into the 2nd chain from the hook, hdc across (4) and along the other side of the chain (8 hdc around)

round 2: hdc increase into the first stitch, hdc into the next; repeat around (12 hdc around)

rounds 3—16: hdc around (12)

slip stitch into next to fasten off; leave a 10” tail to sew the feet flat on the bottom of the fur through the bottom layer of brown loops

sew them in such a way that you can see the curve of the fur over the top of the foot to give the leg definition

cut out paw pad pieces of felt and glue them onto the bottoms of the feet
