this patchwork square would look great on anything: tops, hats, bags, cardigans, blankets especially!
materials:
two different color yarns, worsted weight, 4ply
6mm hook to achieve 4” squares
scissors and yarn needle
the square:
begin with a magic ring in color of [CAT]
round 1- chain 3, this counts as first double crochet, double crochet 15 into magic ring, slip stitch to the top chain of the “chain 3” (16)
round 2- chain 3, this counts as first double crochet, double crochet into same stitch, double crochet 2 (increase) in every double crochet around, slip stitch to top chain of the “chain 3” (32)
round 3- (ears) chain 5, slip stitch into 2nd chain from hook, sc in next, hdc in next, dc in last
skip 1 stitch, loosely slip stitch 7
chain 5, slip stitch into 2nd chain from hook, sc in next, hdc in next, dc in last
skip 1 stitch, slip stitch to next stitch; use the second color to pull up a chain
worked in the round, using color of [SQUARE] in BACK LOOPS ONLY
starting in next stitch, parentheses indicate the 4 sides of the square:
— sc 3, hdc, dc) chain 1
(dc into same stitch, hdc, sc 7, hdc, dc) chain 1
(dc into same stitch, hdc, sc 9)
(hdc decrease, hdc decrease, dc 7, hdc decrease, hdc decrease)
(sc in next 5, and into the slip stitch from previous round. slip stitch to first chain —
you should have 11 stitches on each side, not counting the chain spaces
fasten off ♡
